Using your lived experience in peer roles
On 4 October 2022, we had the privilege of chatting with Lindy Zillman about all things peer work. We talked about what it meant to be doing peer work, when to share your own lived experience and what to do when things get tough. We were reminded that peer support can happen anywhere and just needs a non-judgmental and curious compassionate response.
In Lindy’s words:
Peer approach is really about really being someone who is drawing on their experience ideally on their lived experience to be able to sit and support someone with an understanding and knowing of what that person may have been or may be going based on their own experience
Those who were not able to join us for the live discussion have been asking for the recording so it is with great pleasure that I post the link to the presentation below.
If you want to share your experience with presenting from your lived experience at conferences or want to start a critical discussion about what we talked about, comment here, on the video or send us an email.
We have also written up a cheat sheet so you can follow along and prepare for your presentation at a conference. Download the cheat sheet here.
We all have a valid experience to share.
