Our Work

Here's just a snapshot of our current projects.

ProfessionaLE Sessions

CriticLE is partnering with leaders who use their lived experiences to make change in the suicide prevention sector. The ProfessionaLE sessions are for anyone who wants to do more with their lived experience work and for anyone who wants to partner with people with lived experience.

Join us as we learn by experience.

Lived Experience Over Lunch

CriticLE is catching up with thought leaders in all things lived experience to bring light to topics we need to be talking about.

We take deep dives into important topics such as what the research space is like for lived experience, what impact does lived experience disclosure have in the workplace and more.

Advocacy and pushing for change

We are choosing advocacy topics as driven by our sector participants with the aim of changing the way people view lived experience engagement.

Our first advocacy platform is ‘More than just storytellers’ and shows the world that people with lived experience are more than just a sad story. They bring incredible passion and skill to their diverse roles in suicide prevention.

Research into lived experience participation in suicide prevention, Australia

Hayley is undertaking PhD studies into the participation of people with lived experience of suicide in suicide prevention activities in Australia. This research will do a stocktake of what we have out there that tells us how people are engaged, why they are engaged and to what benefit/detriment. It starts with a scoping review that will form questions that we will be asking everyone in the sector for answers to.

The research asks questions like:

  • What are the formal structures that enable your engagement or participation?

  • How do you keep yourself and those you work with well and engaged?

  • What do you want out of engagement and participation in the space?

  • Do the wants and needs differ across people who work in organisations, the public sector, academia and those with a lived or living experience?

To enable the research, a community expert advisory has been engaged that is made up of people who work in the suicide prevention space, those with a lived experience, and those with experience in advocacy of those with direct experience in sectors such as disability and HIV prevention.

Interviews for the research have closed and analysis has started. Preliminary findings are expected to be complete by the end of 2023!

Thought leadership

Our valued contributors pose questions and critical viewpoints in our thought leadership blog.

Traditionally lived experience accounts have been filtered through organisational or academic lenses before being "published". This really shapes the stories that get told. What is missing is people with lived experience driving this knowledge generation, without any filtering.

The thought leadership blog creates a place where people with lived experience control the narrative that is "published". It will also be a valuable source of lived and living experience knowledge for organisations, researchers and academics to use in their work engaging lived experience.

Knowledge translation

We are committed to sharing knowledge and prompting critical thought. As part of our work, we are available to speak at conferences and events on topics that are directly relevant to the success of lived experience engagement in suicide prevention.

If you would like to organise a knowledge translation session at your event or in your workplace, get in touch
